The problem
Significant floor settlement problems had developed in many areas of a large North Queensland sales warehouse of a major Australian hardware retailer.
Product shelving directly accessed by customers had been chocked up to make level. There were risks to customers and staff and the store had an insightly appearance.
The solution
We were required to raise and re-level a very large area of slab-on-ground floor, so that chocking under product shelving could be removed. The works had to minimise interruption to retail trading and allow normal re-stocking after hours.
The whole commercial neighbourhood was built on reclaimed mangrove-swamp land. The 150mm thick concrete floor slabs had sunk unevenly over a large area of the 5,400m2 trading area. Many settled floor bays had ‘hung up’ around piled pad footings and where settlement had occurred, it was considerable – as much as 130mm in places, with an average of 60mm.
The Result
Our crews from two fully self-contained operations rigs used four injection guns simultaneously, to carry out an extensive Uretek Slab-Lifting process.
They worked mostly at night outside trading hours, taking care to screen and protect merchandise. The project was completed in 26 night shifts. The product shelves were corrected as the floor was re- levelled and the previously installed temporary chocks were removed.
The store was kept open throughout the entire process as we were able to work at night, not interfere with restocking and keep the store clean throughout the works.
