Addressing Subsidence through Ground Improvement and Re-Levelling at Tumbulgum Rangers Sports Club

The Tumbulgum Rangers Sports Club, home to the local Rangers soccer club has been a cherished institution in the community for many years, serving as a hub for sporting activities and a gathering place for families and friends. However, the club faced significant issues due to substantial subsidence, most evident at the front corner of the building, where it had sunk by up to 175mm.

This differential settlement led to a range of structural problems, including having a significant and noticeable fall from the centre of the building out to the building perimeter, so much so that the glass trophy cabinets doors on the second level were unable to stay closed.

Mainmark developed and executed a comprehensive injection strategy with two primary objectives: first, to lift the affected section of the building back towards level, and second, to fill any voids beneath the footings, improve any weak and compactable soils to maximise ground support and mitigate future subsidence.

Teretek^® was injected directly beneath the footing to a depth of 3.5m below the foundations. This multi-depth approach was beneficial in achieving the targeted level correction in a gentle and controlled manner, as well as treating the supporting soils at depth.

The structure was closely monitored throughout the project, with injection rods strategically placed at optimum depths to minimise the risk of disruption to the surrounding paths and landscaping.

As a result of Mainmark’s Teretek resin injection solution, the structure was successfully raised, which closed the cracks in the internal partition walls, restored an even floor grade, and ensured the trophy cabinets functioned properly, allowing them to open and close with ease. The additional multi-depth injections will further strengthen and support the soils, while the successful execution of the project highlights Mainmark’s commitment to providing quality engineering solutions and enhancing the facility’s safety and usability for the community.
