Airport and seaport floors and structures re-levelling and re-supporting

Mainmark includes a team of airport specialists who have a great deal of experience in dealing with the differing construction types found at airports. We understand how to work inside tight NOTAMs and can provide solutions to repaire the airports which incur minimal interference with traffic.

Our services include:

Airport Sub-surface Void Filling

Our experienced engineers can identify and eliminate sub-surface voids. Usually caused by water, these are the #1 enemy of pavement whether hard or flexible. Mainmark has multiple solutions depending on the individual case. Many voids are injected with a fast setting structural resin which can improve SBC by 500% or more. Alternatives are our specialist Terefil foam concrete and perhaps even our Micro Pile solution.

Pavement Re-levelling

Concrete slabs can be quickly brought back to grade when Mainmark injects a purpose built expanding structural resin under the slab to fill voids, re-support the slab, and lift it back to grade. This work is fast, depending on the problems encountered, and often 2 -3 slabs can be re-levelled in a single 4 hour NOTAM. Slower setting foam concretes are also available for this task depending on the specific problem.

Water Control

Mainmark can review your water plan and inspect for water related issues. It is not unusual to find soil pipes leading under runways, or to find water travelling quite long distances though layers in the paving. We can help find the sources of these problems and resolve them before pavement breaks or delaminates.

Airport Concrete Slab and Runway Repair

Mainmark is adept at resolving the many issues that confront the owner of concrete pavement. These include:

  • Crack Repair: Filling a crack is rarely sufficient. We need to understand the reason for the crack and to treat the cause as well as the symptom. Mainmark calls this “dentistry for concrete”. If the crack has occurred because of weak support, we firstly re-support the slab, and then like a dentist, we cut out the bad concrete and fill it with an appropriate elastomeric compound.
  • Corner cracking: Usually caused by broken expansion joints, these corner cracks usually indicate voiding under the 3 adjacent slabs as well. Mainmark injects an expanding PU foam under these locations to re-support and re-level, and then fills the crack and repairs the expansion joint to ensure the problem does not re-occur.
  • Re-support: Where Concrete has been subject to flooding, a minor change in the support base can take place which if not resolved immediately, will result in significant damage in years to come. Mainmark’s solution  is to provide a continuous support base to the concrete using a structural resin specially developed for the purpose.

Mainmark has undertaken extensive projects at Don Mueang airport and other airports where we have provided assistance include Hat Yai, Chennai, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne airports.

Seaports

  • Raise and re-level docks, warehouses, weirs, shipyards, sea bridges, and roads with JOG Computer-Controlled Grouting and Mainmark’s exclusive resin injection system, easily working around normal operational requirements
  • Fill voids, decommissioned pipelines and culverts, and abandoned structures beneath seaport infrastructure with Terefil for increased stability
  • Replace washed out fines in seawall

The soil under docks is often wet or compressed from heavy use. As a result, the concrete panels on the top of such soils become uneven. Uneven concrete panels get damaged very quickly necessitating early replacement. Apart from being wasteful of port infrastructure, in a busy port, the process of concrete slab replacement can hinder operations and slow productivity.

Mainmark’s method of slab re-levelling ensures that concrete slabs are re-levelled promptly and permanently. Uretek uses laser levelling to ensure that slabs are perfectly matched – and perfectly supported. Pavements are then able to deliver their full service life.

A set of four slabs usually takes less than a day to re-level. Port operations can continue around our operations team, and the work area can be used as soon as we have left.
